About
A dual citizen of the United States and Norway, Dr. Erik Carter received degrees in theology and religion from Southern Adventist University and Andrews University, a D.Min. from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and is currently a Ph.D. in Practical Theology student at Claremont School of Theology. In addition, he is also working on a Certificate in Christian Spiritual Formation at Columbia Theological Seminary.
Carter is an ordained minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and served as a pastor for seven years in various districts throughout the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference. In addition to pastoral ministry, he also has experience in pastoral care and counseling. He is a clinical member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC) and is endorsed by Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries.
His current research interests involve the confluence of Christian and Jewish spirituality, and education in the context of practical theology and Adventism. As a doctoral student at Claremont School of Theology, some of his coursework has included the following: Evil and Suffering: Globalizing Religions, Theology of Religions, Post-Holocaust Jewish Thought, Visionaries and Mystics in Jewish Literature, Spirituality in the Evangelical Tradition, Qualitative Research Methods, and Practical Theology.
With a deep concern for the faithfulness of the church, Dr. Carter speaks regularly around the country and abroad on matters of theological and spiritual renewal. His publications can be found in various professional and church-related journals.
